What you'll do

This trip is a week-long adventure from Tromsø to Alta, combining skiing on majestic peaks with sailing along Norway’s stunning northern coastline. This advanced tour explores the Lyngen Alps, Finnmark’s glaciated peaks, and remote mountains like Kågen and the Øksfjord peninsula, offering unique, raw, and wild experiences. Participants sail 3–5 hours daily to new ski destinations, enjoying untouched snow, stable spring conditions, and bright Arctic evenings, perfect for making new friends and tackling thrilling descents in breathtaking scenery.

Itinerary

Welcome aboard! We gather at the dock in Tromsø at 16:00 to settle into the sailboat and get acquainted. Before setting sail, we'll review the boat, equipment, and onboard safety routines. That evening, we’ll head out through Tromsøsundet and Grøtsundet toward our first anchorage. Supper will be prepared after we depart, though it's recommended to eat before arriving.
After an early breakfast, we head ashore by dinghy to embark on our first ski tour of the adventure! There are fantastic peaks to explore on the way north from Tromsø, including Ringvassøya, Reinøya, or perhaps Ullstinden at 1,093 meters above sea level as our first destination. After an exhilarating day on the slopes, we set sail towards Lyngen, where we’ll anchor for the night and prepare for the next day’s ski adventure.
The northern tip of the Lyngen Peninsula offers an ideal starting point for exploring the stunning peaks of the Lyngen Alps. Our plans for the day will depend on the weather, conditions, and the ambitions of our group. One option is Storgalten, where we can ascend from the west side, ski down the eastern slopes, and have the boat meet us on the other side—a unique perk of Ski & Sail! This exciting start sets the tone for an unforgettable adventure.
The islands surrounding the Lyngen Peninsula are just as breathtaking as the renowned peaks on the peninsula itself, though they’re mostly accessible only by boat. On Arnøya, Uløya, or Kågen, we’re bound to discover a pristine mountain with excellent snow and minimal tracks. After an exhilarating day of ski touring, we’ll sail further east into Finnmark, anchoring in a tranquil bay to unwind and enjoy the evening.
The vast Øksfjord glacier peninsula is a remote paradise for summit ski tours, and traveling by boat gives us access to its entire breathtaking terrain. Over these days, we’ll explore the stunning fjords of Reinfjord, Bergsfjord, or Øksfjord—perhaps even venturing onto the glacier itself. With some luck and a cheerful skipper, you might get dropped off in one fjord and picked up in another for an unforgettable adventure!
On our final day of skiing, we’ll choose a peak on our way to Alta, with great options near Langfjorden’s entrance or perhaps exploring Stjernøya. After a rewarding day in the mountains, we’ll sail into Altafjord, marking the last stop of our adventure. Dinner will be enjoyed either during the journey or upon docking in Alta—where we might even check if the local pub is open for a celebratory evening!
We start our morning at the dock in Alta with breakfast, followed by packing and tidying up the boat. The trip concludes at 10:00. The airport is nearby, but we recommend leaving some extra time when planning your journey home. Thank you for an amazing adventure!
