It’s a challenging route, but the rewards are unparalleled: breathtaking views at Concordia, where the giants of the Karakoram rise against the sky, surrounded by eternal glaciers.Beyond the stunning landscapes, this adventure offers a chance to connect with the local Balti and Hunza communities, enriching your journey with cultural discovery and unforgettable memories.

Itinerary

Welcome to Islamabad, the vibrant and bustling capital of Pakistan, known as the "Land of the Pure." Upon arrival at the international airport, you’ll be warmly greeted by our team, who will assist you with your luggage and transfer you to a comfortable 4-star hotel in a private vehicle. The day is dedicated to rest and relaxation, giving you time to recover from your journey and acclimatize to your new surroundings. In the evening, you’ll have the chance to meet the rest of your trekking group and discuss the exciting adventure ahead. We reccomend to arrive in the morning to have time to rest after the trek starts.
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll head to the airport for a thrilling flight to Skardu, the gateway to the Karakoram range. The flight offers unparalleled views of some of the world’s highest peaks, including the majestic Nanga Parbat (8126m). Upon arrival in Skardu, we’ll transfer to a charming 3-star hotel, where you can settle in and freshen up. Spend the afternoon exploring Skardu’s bustling bazaar, where you can experience the local culture, shop for unique souvenirs, or simply soak in the atmosphere.
This day is reserved for final preparations for the trek. You may choose to relax or explore the surrounding areas. A recommended activity is a hike to Kharpocho Fort, a historic fortress perched on a hill, offering panoramic views of the Indus River and Skardu town. Alternatively, you can visit the serene Sadpara Lake, a tranquil spot surrounded by mountains. This is also a good opportunity to double-check your trekking gear. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided at the hotel.
The adventure begins with an early morning jeep ride to Askole, the last village before entering the wilderness of the Karakoram. The journey takes you through the picturesque Shigar Valley, with its green fields and apricot orchards, before transitioning to the rugged and arid terrain of the Braldu River valley. Expect a mix of smooth roads and bumpy trails, passing by small villages and dramatic landscapes. Upon reaching Askole, our porters will welcome you with tents already set up. Enjoy your first campsite dinner under the stars. Altitude: 3015m Travel time: 6-8 hours
Your trekking adventure officially begins! Leaving your belongings with the porters, you’ll follow the Braldo River along a relatively straightforward trail. Along the way, we’ll stop at the park office for registration. This stage ends at Jhola Camp, situated in a side valley beyond a newly constructed bridge. The campsite offers a chance to relax and enjoy the stunning surroundings. Length: 20km Altitude: 3103m Trekking Time: 5-8 hours
The trail continues along the Braldo River, with gradual ascents and descents adding to the day’s challenges. As you trek, you’ll catch your first glimpses of the iconic Trango Towers and Cathedral Peak. The microclimate in this area can make it quite warm, so stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun. The day ends at Paiju Camp, where you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. Length: 19.8km Altitude: 3418m Trekking Time: 6-7 hours
Take a well-deserved break to acclimatize at Paiju Camp. You can go on a short acclimatization hike to the base of Paiju Peak or enjoy a refreshing walk to the nearby river. This is also an ideal spot to take a shower before heading into more remote and rugged areas. Rest, relax, and recharge for the challenging days ahead.
This stage marks the start of trekking on the Baltoro Glacier. The path over the moraine is rocky and uneven, requiring careful footing. Although challenging, the trek offers stunning views of the Uli Biaho and Trango Towers. The day ends at Khoburtse Camp, set on a flat area alongside the glacier, with incredible vistas of the surrounding peaks. Altitude: 3788m Length: 14.7km Trekking Time: 5-7 hours
The trek continues on the Baltoro Glacier, offering mesmerizing views of the Trango Towers in all their glory. The final ascent leads to Urdukas Camp, a historic site once used by the Duke of Abruzzi during his expeditions. The campsite provides exceptional views of the glacier and nearby mountains. Length: 6.4km Altitude: 3905m Trekking Time: 4-6 hours
Climbing further up the Baltoro Glacier, over 4000 m, you’ll cross exposed ice sections where the glacier emerges from beneath the moraine (you don’t need to use crampons). Highlights include breathtaking views of Masherbrum (7,821m) and Muztagh Tower. The Goro II campsite, set directly on the glacier, is cold and requires extra insulation. Porters will prepare double stone layers under your tents for added warmth. Length: 11.9km Altitude: 4285m Trekking Time: 6-8 hours
Trek from Goro II to Concordia offers breathtaking views as you traverse the Baltoro Glacier. Marvel at towering ice formations and hear the sounds of shifting glaciers. Arriving at Concordia unveils a 360° panorama of iconic peaks: K2, Broad Peak, Mitre Peak and Gasherbrum. Relax at the camp, soak in golden sunsets, and gaze at the stars over the majestic Karakoram giants. A truly unforgettable day! Length:11.7km Altitude: 4512m Trekking Time: 5-7 hours
A shorter but essential day of trekking takes you closer to the heart of the high Karakoram. The route traverses icy slopes and areas cleared of moraine debris, providing more consistent glacier walking. While optional, using crampons can add extra stability on these sections. The highlight of the day is the ever-looming K2, which dominates the skyline as you trek. The camp at Broad Peak Base Camp offers stunning views of both K2 and Broad Peak, creating a sense of being fully immersed in the realm of giants. Length: 6km Altitude: 4850m Trekking Time: 3-4 hours
This is a standout day in the journey and one you’ll remember for a lifetime. Departing from Broad Peak Base Camp, the route ascends gradually on the Godwin-Austen Glacier. Along the way, you’ll pass the solemn Gilkey Memorial, a tribute to climbers who have lost their lives attempting K2. Continuing onward, you’ll arrive at K2 Base Camp, a hub of mountaineering activity where climbers’ tents and flags dot the landscape. After soaking in the grandeur of K2 and the surrounding peaks, you’ll return to Concordia for a well-earned rest. Length: 16km Altitude: 5230m Trekking Time: 8-10 hours
The descent begins, retracing the path down the Baltoro Glacier. Although the route is now familiar, the descent offers fresh perspectives of the towering peaks and glacier formations. As the altitude decreases, you’ll notice a difference in your energy levels, making the walk smoother and more enjoyable. The day concludes at Urdukas Camp. Altitude: 3905m Length: 23km Trekking Time: 8-9 hours
Continue your descent, leaving behind the glacier and returning to the easier terrain of the Baltoro moraine and surrounding trails. The lush greenery and the familiar sights of the Paiju Camp will greet you, offering a sense of comfort after days of rugged trekking. Altitude: 3418m Length: 21km Trekking Time: 8-9 hours
Trek along the Braldo River back to Jhola, retracing the early stages of your adventure. The terrain here is more forgiving, but the accumulated fatigue of the journey may be felt. Nevertheless, the beauty of the surroundings and the sense of accomplishment keep spirits high. Length: 19.8km Altitude: 3103m Trekking Time: 6-8 hours
Your final day of trekking takes you from Jhola to Askole. Although the end is near, the terrain includes a few ascents and descents to test your remaining energy. By early afternoon, you’ll arrive in Askole, where it’s time to bid farewell to your guides, porters, and cooks. This evening marks your last night camping under the starry skies of the Karakoram. Length: 20km Altitude: 3015m Trekking Time: 6-8 hours
After breakfast, the group will board jeeps for the return journey to Skardu. While the drive is long, it offers another chance to take in the stunning landscapes of the Shigar and Braldu Valleys. Upon arrival in Skardu, you’ll check into a comfortable 3-star hotel where a hot shower, clean clothes, and a cozy bed await. The evening is free to explore the city or enjoy a celebratory dinner with your trekking group.
After breakfast, transfer to Skardu Airport for the return flight to Islamabad. Once in Islamabad, the afternoon is free for sightseeing or relaxation at the hotel. This is the perfect time to reflect on the incredible journey and share stories with fellow trekkers.
This day is reserved as a buffer in case of delays due to weather or logistical issues, such as flight cancellations. If everything goes as planned, it’s an opportunity to explore Islamabad further. Optional activities include visiting the Faisal Mosque, Rawal Lake, or exploring the city’s vibrant bazaars.
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to Pakistan and the unforgettable adventure you’ve experienced. Transfer to the airport for your flight home, taking with you memories of the Karakoram’s majestic peaks, thrilling trails, and warm hospitality. Safe travels!
